20-20-20 timer
A 20-20-20 timer is not a kitchen timer you flip by hand all day. It is an interval (20 minutes of near work) plus a look-away countdown (20 seconds at a distance).
What the timer should do
- Count down to the next break even if you switch apps.
- Tell you to look far away, not just “take a break.”
- Let you pause in a meeting and skip when you truly cannot stop.
How Eye Rest’s timer works
The home screen shows remaining time in a ring. The next break is scheduled with Android’s alarm APIs, not only an on-screen clock. When you start a rest, a separate countdown runs for the break duration (20 seconds by default).
Timer vs pomodoro
Pomodoro is usually 25 minutes of focus and a longer rest, aimed at productivity. 20-20-20 is aimed at a brief change of focus distance. Eye Rest is the second kind.
