How to follow the 20-20-20 rule on Android

On Android you need two things: a timer that survives leaving the app, and a prompt that tells you to look away — not just “break time” in generic language.

Step by step in Eye Rest

  1. Install Eye Rest from Google Play (package tq.tech.eyerest).
  2. Choose work hours so reminders stay inside the part of the day you sit at a screen.
  3. Allow notifications if you want a nudge when a break is due. Declining does not block the rest of the app.
  4. When the notification or Home countdown hits zero, start the break and look at something far away until the 20 seconds end.
  5. Optional: add the countdown widget to the home screen so you can see time remaining without opening the app.

If reminders feel late

Android can delay inexact alarms to save battery. Eye Rest uses exact alarms when the system allows Alarms & reminders. If breaks drift, check that setting for the app.

Free vs Pro

The free app uses the classic 20-minute interval and 20-second rest on weekdays. Lifetime Pro unlocks custom intervals, extra days, quiet mode, and longer stats — one payment, no subscription.
